Powder room ideas, powder room design ideas and makeover information.
Have you ever thought of using classic powder room ideas to build or remodel that favorite space where you pamper and beautify yourself?
You may be calling this area the half bath or the guest bath. The most basic of powder room designs contains a toilet, a faucet and a sink of some kind, with a mirror on the wall.
This kind of space may be on the main floor of your house and can be used to lessen the rush in the mornings.
It may be near the kitchen or in a hallway, maybe even in the space beneath a staircase near the living room.
If this is the case, your guests don't need to go upstairs into private areas looking for a bathroom.
Designer powder rooms are small, usually measuring 3' x 6', 4' x 4' or 4' x 5' which is about the size of a small laundry area or closet.
If you look, you can find smaller bathroom fixtures for a room of this size. Guest bathrooms should be in proportion with the rest of your house.
If you have a large house, you may want to build a larger powder room with one or two sinks, more countertop area, storage and maybe even a tub or shower.
Larger size rooms measuring 5' x 7', 5' x 9' or 6' x 8' are still modest, but they provide a lot more space for storing grooming supplies and other items.
Be sure to include some good lighting in your budget – both artificial and natural lighting, if possible, so you don't get shadows lurking in the corners.
In a small room, you may want to consider task lighting for checking make-up, wall sconces, general lighting, and maybe a nice, large well-lit mirror.
If you don't have a window or space to add one, consider adding a skylight, either mounted in the wall or in the roof.
This is a great way to bring in some natural light in what otherwise might turn into a black hole. Hang the door so it swings out against a wall or use a pocket door so it doesn't take up valuable space inside.
For small designer powder rooms, don't mix a bunch of different materials and textures. To do so will be overwhelming.
Keep the colors light and surfaces small, so that the room, regardless of its size, feels more open and larger. Don't fall prey to frilly curtains. Keep patterns and tiles small in a small space.
Mirrors are a great way to make a space appear larger. They create a sense of openness, making the area feel larger than it really is. Mirrors will also maximize your lighting through reflection.
When adding an extra small bathroom for your family, remember, it is an investment. If you ever put your home on the market, an extra bathroom adds a lot of value and interest.
If you are planning to add a designer powder room and want to avoid some huge plumbing costs, locate the new room close to the existing one.
If your home has more than one floor, stack the bathrooms one on top of the other. This will allow you to use the same plumbing lines for both bathrooms and will save you a nice chunk of change.
Don't forget to put a power ventilator in your budget that is adequate to remove any odors and humidity from the new space. Mold and mildew can grow quickly without an exhaust fan to remove the excess moisture.
